As beautifully finished as the surroundings of the Markthal in Rotterdam are, it is so chaotic around the Blaak public transport hub. The underground Station Blaak in Rotterdam, built in 1993, was due for a makeover. From cluttered cycle paths and gloomy tram stops to more structure and attractive platforms.
The shape of an hourglass
In the hall of Station Blaak in Rotterdam there was a wide column that obstructed the view considerably. De Architect therefore wanted to create more visibility with the new column. And make sure there are no blind spots. He therefore devised a column with narrower contours in the shape of an hourglass.
